Day of Remembrance

Bereaved families, war veterans and many other individuals fromOkinawa, mainland Japan, and various foreign countries such asthe United States, come to participate in a memorial service heldevery year on June 23rd (Okinawa Memorial Day) to honor thoselives lost in the Battle of Okinawa; As the clock strikes noon,silent prayers are offered for everlasting world peace.

The Cornerstone of Peace

Unveiled in 1995, thenames of over 240,000 war dead, regardless of nationality ormilitary/civilian affiliation are inscribed on the Cornerstone ofPeace monument. Many people come to visit the monument, suchas those who have lost family members in the war, andindividuals participating in peace related study groups.
