Remember Those Lost in the War & Pray for Peace

The Cornerstone of Peace is a place to remember and honor the more than 240,000 people who lost their lives during the Battle of Okinawa. It also serves as a place for us to appreciate the peace in which we live today, and pray for everlasting world peace.

Pass On the Lessons of War

Okinawa was the site of the only land battle in Japan during World War II. Okinawa's residents were caught in the fighting, resulting in massive loss of precious lives and cultural assets. Our wartime experiences must not be forgotten. The Cornerstone of Peace will pass on the lessons learned from the tragedy of War to future generations.

A Place for Meditation and Learning

In addition to the memorial walls inscribed with the names of the war dead, sculptures are arranged throughout the Cornerstone of Peace to impart a sense of tranquility to all visitors.
